ABOUT
Andrea Fazzari is a Tokyo-based James Beard Award-winning photographer, author, director and dining consultant with a background in fashion and film.
Fazzari's latest coffee table book SUSHI SHOKUNIN: Japan's Culinary Masters was released on September 24th 2020 (published by Assouline). Fazzari wrote, photographed and co-designed this striking silk-bound monograph, the first of its kind. Read more about it here.
Her previous book, James Beard Award winner Tokyo New Wave: 31 Chefs Defining Japan’s Next Generation (2018), is Fazzari's love letter to this city's distinct and electrifying gastronomic world. It includes 435 photographs, 31 essays and interviews. Collaborating regularly with Japan's many esteemed chefs and shokunin (artisans) has afforded Fazzari a more profound understanding of Japan, knowledge she shares with great passion. Listen to her insightful interviews on the podcast Japan Eats.
Photography was a hobby until PDN (Photo District News) named Fazzari one of "30 Photographers Under 30” in 2004; she went on to win the Lowell Thomas Gold Travel Photography Award for her work in Argentina for Departures Magazine. Fazzari has photographed and directed campaigns and projects for such companies as Cathay Pacific Airlines and Four Seasons Hotels, and magazines such as Travel + Leisure, Vanity Fair, Architectural Digest and Departures. Four Magazine and Fine Dining Lovers - among others - have done features about Fazzari, and Photo District News selected her as one of the year's best food culture photographers in their 2017 food issue. She has written articles about food culture to accompany her photographs, including An Obssesive's Ode to Onigiri! For more press, check this page.
Andrea Fazzari is Starwood Hotel Group’s first Luxury Collection Global Explorer. Her photographs, journal entries and audio narrations describing her travels on six continents were featured in the Luxury Collection Destination Guides (Assouline). She is also a tastemaker in Hotel Stories (Assouline), a travel book showcasing unique luxury properties, and the photographer and stylist of Aperitivo (Rizzoli), shot on location throughout Italy. Fazzari is the featured photographer of the book Bvlgari Il Ristorante (Assouline) made in conjunction with Bvlgari Japan.
Before becoming a photographer, she worked in fashion and film public relations for Giorgio Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, and Miramax Films. She has explored over ninety countries, and has lived – on her own – in seven. Fazzari is originally from Manhattan, and before finally moving to Japan, she had lived in Italy, France, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Spain.
